Paid Time Off Programs

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Paid Time Off benefit program provides holiday, vacation, and sick leave benefits to eligible employees. The information presented here is a summary of the major features of these benefits. Company policies provide for a more complete description of each benefit.

Employees eligible for time off benefit plans are ongoing employees regularly scheduled to work at least 20 hours a week; Paid Time Off benefits are prorated for part-time employees. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours a week are not eligible for holiday pay. Per Diem employees are not eligible for the Paid Time Off benefits programs outlined below but are eligible for Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time.

Holidays and Personal Holidays

Fred Hutch provides benefits eligible employees with 13 paid days of holiday time each year for employees employed over the course of a year. The 13 days are typically comprised of 11 Fred Hutch recognized holiday dates and 2 personal holidays.

Vacation

Ongoing full-time employees, other than faculty members and scientific staff, and Physician Assistants who provide primary care on the inpatient transplant service, accrue vacation at the rate of 12 days (96 hours) per year during their first year of service. This accrual rate increases by one additional day (8 hours) each year up to the maximum of 22 days per year. The accrual rate is prorated for part time employees who work at least 20 hours a week. Faculty Members and Scientific Staff receive vacation benefits at the rate of 22 days (176 hours) per year. This amount will be prorated for Faculty Members and Scientific Staff who regularly work less than full time.

Sick Leave

The Sick Leave program provides income protection for benefits-eligible employees who are unable to work due to a reason outlined in the Sick Leave policy, including the employee’s or a family member’s illness or injury. Employees are eligible for sick leave after 30 days of employment. Eligible employees receive between 12 and 25 days of Sick Leave based on years of service. Scientific Staff (including Faculty) receive 30 days Sick Leave per occurrence. Employees not eligible for Sick Leave accrue 1 hour per 30 hours worked of Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time.

Parental Leave

Fred Hutch provides benefits eligible employees with up to four weeks of paid time off in a 12-month period to bond as a parent with a newborn child, newly adopted child, new foster care child, or child newly placed in their custody, unless applicable law requires otherwise (Parental Leave). Eligible employees will receive up to 100 percent of their regular earnings during Parental Leave.
